German financial regulator BaFin has fined Deutsche Bank €23.05 million for anti-money laundering (AML) and compliance deficiencies. The bank fell short in its controls over the sale of foreign exchange derivatives in Spain and had taken insufficient measures to manage AML risks. In addition, BaFin found weaknesses in the Postbank division, including problems in complying with AML obligations and slow processing of customer requests. Deutsche Bank accepted the fine and announced improvements in its processes.

BaFin stresses that strict compliance with AML regulations is key to preventing financial crime. The fine underlines the need for Deutsche Bank and other financial institutions to further strengthen their compliance processes. The regulator continues to crack down on deficiencies that increase the risk of money laundering.
